Theta SC - Ricoh's New 360-Degree Camera.

Japanese multinational imaging and electronics company Ricoh has announced a new version of its handheld 360-degree camera Theta S. Known as the the Theta SC, it is cheaper and a smaller version of the Theta S.

Although slightly cheaper than its predecessor, the features of both the cameras is nearly the same. Images are still roughly 14 megapixels (5376×2688), while videos are 1080p at 30 frames per second, or 720p at 15 fps. The sensor, battery life and size of the internal memory (8GB) are almost similar. The SC is about 20% lighter as compared to the S which weighs 125g vs 102g.

The biggest and most noticeable difference is the difference in time for recording videos. The S can record up to 25 minutes per video whereas the new SC records just 5 minutes per video. Also, the S has a slightly faster maximum shutter speed, 1/8000 vs 1/6400.

However, as compared to the other Ricoh product Theta m15, the SC is a better choice. The Theta m15 has half the memory, smaller battery, can only record 3min per video and that video is only 15 frames per second.

Theta SC costs $300 at Ricoh's website and other traditional camera retailers.
