Samsung Shares Something Exciting About The Upcoming Galaxy S8.

After the success of the Galaxy S7 and the fiasco of Galaxy Note 7, the South Korean giant is planning to make the announcement of its next flagship Galaxy S8 sometime in February or March 2017. What's exciting is that the new flagship would be featuring an enhanced artificial-intelligence (AI) service.

The new service may be named as Bixby and will be based on Viv, an assistant that Samsung purchased last month. Interestingly, the co-founders of Viv labs were the original creators of Apple's Siri.

Talking about the digital assistant, the Vice-President of Samsung electronics, Rhee In-jong said, "We are developing a key major interface which will bring about a totally new paradigm; an open AI platform." He further added, "The current Galaxy smartphones need separate applications for users, for instance, to order pizza or coffee. But, the new AI platform will enable them to order (or do) things directly without going through separate applications."

According to Rhee, the assistant would allow users to use third-party service seamlessly. "Developers can attach and upload services to our agent," he said. "Even if Samsung doesn't do anything on its own, the more services that get attached the smarter this agent will get, learn more new services and provide them to end-users with ease." Gradually, the voice assistant services will be expanded to other Samsung devices, including wearables and home appliances.

Although Samsung already has an S Voice assistant for its smartphones, It is nowhere close to Apple's Siri, Google's Google Assistant or Microsoft's Cortana. Hopefully, the new assistant Bixby will give Samsung the much needed boost in terms of sales and innovation especially after the Galaxy Note 7 tragedy.
