Nokia Planning To Launch A New Android Smartphone In 2017.
One of the most well-known mobile brands in the world, Nokia is once again trying to make a niche for itself in the smartphone making business. Apparently Nokia has signed a partnership deal with Finnish company HMD Global wherein HMD has successfully secured exclusive licensing rights to the Nokia brand for the next 10 years. The team together will manufacture the first batch of Android-powered Nokia smartphones in early 2017 and has plans to manufacture affordable feature phones too.
Here’s HMD’s statement:
Finnish company HMD will bring a new generation of mobile phones to consumers, with the first smartphone products set to be launched in the first half of 2017, alongside the existing Nokia branded feature phone business.
The launch of HMD comes just six months after the company signed a strategic licensing agreement with Nokia, giving HMD exclusive use of the Nokia brand on mobile phones and tablets worldwide for the next 10 years.
HMD has developed a unique strategic partnership model that will see it working with some of the world’s leading technology companies including Nokia, FIH Mobile Limited (FIH) and Google. Future Nokia smartphones will utilise Google’s Android operating system, currently deployed on 86 [percent] of the world’s smartphones.
HMD is developing an exciting new consumer centric product range which will focus on innovation, quality and experience, alongside the iconic Nokia mobile phone attributes of design, robustness, and reliability.
Back in May, there were reports of Nokia manufacturing Android smartphones which however did not happen.
Also, earlier HMD had come out with a new feature phone which did not do wellbin this age of smartphones
I guess we’ll have to wait 2017 to find out whether Nokia-HMD partnership would be able to bring Nokia back its golden days !
